ALMF course: Designing and performing Adaptive Feedback Microscopy experiments

Organisers: Aliaksandr Halavatyi, Manuel Gunkel

We are pleased to announce our ALMF course “Designing and performing Adaptive Feedback Microscopy experiments”. This two-day event will take place on June 30 and July 1. Adaptive feedback microscopy combines various imaging techniques with automated image analysis to adjust image acquisition parameters in real time based on feedback from the acquired sample. For example, low-resolution images can be automatically processed to identify target objects (e.g., organelles, cells, or multicellular structures) which are subsequently imaged in a high-content modality. Furthermore, Adaptive Feedback Microscopy is often used to automate experiments involving object tracking, photomanipulation (e.g., FRAP, photoactivation), or photoablation.

This workshop is aimed at microscope users who have already begun experiments with Adaptive Feedback Microscopy or plan to do so in the near future. Participants should have practical experience with confocal microscopes.

You will learn about and test the capabilities and flexibility of Adaptive Feedback Microscopy. Practical exercises will be conducted on confocal microscopes from two different brands and will demonstrate integrated solutions and open-source tools developed and maintained in ALMF. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their projects and possibilities for automating their microscopy experiments.

Aims of the workshop:

  • Learn about capabilities of Adaptive Feedback Microscopy methodology.
  • Learn how to design feedback microscopy experiments for different applications.
  • Set up and test image analysis and feedback decision generating procedures.
  • Discuss possibilities and challenges of Adaptive Feedback Microscopy in participants’ projects.
