In this one-day course, participants will learn more about how to manage a project with git and how to use some of the powerful features of the EMBL GitLab system (git.embl.de) for automated testing, deployment, and web publishing. The course will cover:

  • managing and merging changes across multiple branches
  • configuring and running automated tests of code (continuous integration)
  • automated generation and publication of content to the web with GitLab Pages

Prerequisites

Course participants are expected to be familiar with the basics of working with git (git add, git commit, git log, git diff, git push, git pull) and a web-based interface for manging remote repositories (e.g. GitHub, git.embl.de) e.g. after attending an introductory version control course.

Technical Setup

Course participants are required to bring their own laptop. Further setup instructions will follow closer to the time.

This internal Bio-IT course is free for all EMBL members. Participants can choose to follow the training in-person or via video conferencing. If you prefer to attend the course in-person, please choose the “Course Place” option when registering. If you intend to follow the training remotely, please choose “Remote Attendance”.
