Schedule

The online coding session will take place on 21 November, 10:00- 12:00 CET .

For the statistical background, please schedule ~2h reading time on self-learning materials.

What will I learn?

In this workshop you will learn how to conduct a simple statistical analysis in Python. You can learn about the rationale behind hypothesis tests in a theoretical part, including the assumptions that tests make, and how to check for those assumptions through data visualization. In the coding session, we will have example data and go through a full workflow of visualization, assumption checking, and hypothesis testing in Python, ending with a publication-ready figure.

The theoretical part is covered by self-learning materials that you can go through at your own pace before the course. The estimated time for this is 2 h. During that time, we’ll assist you in a Q and A channel. On top of that, the workshop itself includes discussions, explanations on the theoretical background, and time for your questions.

In this workshop, we’ll focus on normal distributions and the t-test. However, the statistical concepts that are imparted are universal and will also help you when analyzing other data types.

Is this course for me?

This online course is for everyone at EMBL – all sites are welcome – who’d like to understand about hypothesis tests and how they can be conducted in Python.
Some basic coding in Python is required. If you have visited the Data Science Centre Pyhon course, you’re perfectly set up for this workshop.
