Course Description
This new Bio-IT course provides learners with an opportunity to build their Python knowledge and learn some of the powerful ways in which the language can be used for analysis and visualisation of data. The material was designed with an emphasis on (biological) data analysis, and includes several sessions demonstrating domain-specific examples of how Python can be applied to particular tasks.
Participants will learn:
- advanced data structures
- file parsing and handling tabular data
- data visualistaion
numpy
,scipy
,biopython
, and other third-party modules- examples of applying Python to domain-specific tasks (session titles to be confirmed)
The course material will consist of a combination of live demonstration and hands-on exercises.

Prerequisites: The course assumes a basic knowledge of the Python programming language, such as could be gained from attending the Bio-IT Introduction to Python Programming course. Those with experience of another language are expected to have familiarised themselves with the basics of Python before attending.
Fully installed systems will be provided in the teaching lab. Participants can bring their own laptop to work with on the course if they prefer, with the Anaconda Python Distribution (version 3.x), and Biopython installed (you can use conda
