Course Summary
This course will provide an in-depth look at effective use of cluster computing resources such as those available at EMBL. Following on from the material covered in the recent “Introduction to Cluster Computing at EMBL” course, this training will offer participants an opportunity to learn more about how to optimise their compute jobs for this cluster environment e.g. through multi-threading, selection of the most appropriate hardware and software, managing pipelines (e.g. with Snakemake), and more.
Target Audience
This course is aimed at those who have a good understanding of how to write scripts in at least one language (e.g. Python, R, Bash), and have a basic understanding of what a compute cluster is and how to submit jobs to the system via the Slurm job scheduler. (This cluster material is covered in our introductory course mentioned above.) The ideal participant would like to learn more about how to run their analyses most efficiently, how to adapt their own scripts to take advantage of the available resources, and improve their understanding of HPC systems overall.
