Good practices in Python – workshop
We are pleased to announce a Good practices in Python workshop open to all EMBL sites. In this workshop, we will present a few tools and practices that can take you from Python proficiency to good-quality, clean code.
About the Workshop
This event provides practical guidance on writing code that is more maintainable, cleaner, easier to understand and following better software engineering practices in Python.
Topics to be covered
The following topics will be covered:
- Virtual environments – creating self-contained Python spaces with specific requirements and dependencies
- Unit testing – writing code that checks whether your code does what you expect it to
- Docstrings and linting – following consistent style and providing in-code documentation
- Type hinting – establishing explicit declarations for expected types in inputs and outputs
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is open to everyone at EMBL. Basic Python competency (ability to read and understand simple Python code, write simple functions) is expected.
