In this hybrid (online + in-person) 4-day course, you will be introduced to essential concepts of image analysis. You will learn how to use python for image analysis and thereby take advantage of the large and growing number of specialized python libraries. You will also learn how to automatically batch analyse many images. Learning python is also useful in general because it is currently the most popular language for scientific computing and data science. In addition, since a few years a python based image visualisation tool, namely napari, exists that allows for flexible n-dimensional image data visualisation, including overlay of segmentation and annotation layers.

Moreover, as AI is becoming increasingly competent at helping you creating python based solutions, we feel it is critical to learn some basics in order to maximally benefit from these transformative developments.

In course we will be covering this material

As a prerequisite we highly recommend taking the Intermediate Python Course at EMBL from 2026-04-27 to 2026-04-30; or to obtain equivalent knowledge about python basics by other means.
